Bowen Therapy

About Bowen Therapy

Bowen is a very gentle physical therapy, developed by Tom Bowen from Australia in the mid 1900’s. It is a non-invasive technique that uses light pressure at specific points on the body known as the fascia. The fascia activates the nerve bundles below the muscles and tissues to calibrate the autonomic nervous system and allows for the body to be stimulated into parasympathetic mode, this is where the magic happens. Find your inner balance and restore your vitality with the magic of this therapy.

All healing takes place in this parasympathetic mode and by stimulating the nervous system with the use of these systematic moves it allows for the body to reboot and to function optimally.

Treatments are typically scheduled one week apart, although it usually requires 3-5 sessions to have significant results, most patients notice improvement after the first treatment.

The gentle, precise moves of a Bowen session release tensions and encourage a deep sense of relaxation. It’s like a reset button for your body and mind.

How to prepare for your Bowen treatment to get maximum benefit out of the session:

  1. Come to your appointment as well hydrated as possible – when working with the fascia fluid balance is very important in order for the treatment to “stick”.
  2. Please come wearing comfortable loose fitting clothing that would be easy to work on top of
  3. Avoid doing any other bodywork for 5 full days after the treatment.
  4. Do not apply any heat or cold to the body for 24 hours prior to treatment or take any really hot or really cold showers/plunges/saunas/steams for 5 days after the treatment
